…transgenics is used to “turn off” the major cat allergen |

The Process |

Transgenics refers to the process of introducing new genetic material into a cell. A transfected cell is a cell with new DNA material in it. The new genetic material, often called a vector, can be designed to turn off, turn on, suppress, or replace an existing piece of ribonucleic acid (RNA) or deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). Allergic sensitivity to cats has been attributed to one major cat allergen (Fel d 1). Felix Pets uses its proprietary technology and transgenics to “turn off” the cat allergen in a single cell. The transfected cell is implanted into a surrogate cat and allowed to develop into an “allergen-free” kitten. |
